One of the first questions customers ask us is “How dark can the rear be?”. The good news is that for the rear of the car the rules are clear and quite relaxed.
What the law says about the rear windows
Under the Bulgarian Road Traffic Act, there is no limit on how dark the rear of the car can be tinted, as long as it has two side mirrors: the rear side windows and the rear window.
What “light transmission” means
The percentage shows how much of the visible light passes through the glass. A 5% film lets through only 5% of the light and is very dark, while 50% is light. The glass itself doesn’t let through 100% of the light either, and the values differ from car to car, so the choice is made for the specific car.
Why the two side mirrors matter
When the rear window is heavily tinted, visibility to the rear through it is reduced. That’s why unrestricted tinting at the rear depends on having two side mirrors: they give you the rear view you need. Keep them in good working order.
Practical advice
- For the rear, choose the percentage you like. How to choose a percentage.
- For the front windows, ask us which solution suits your car. See film for the front windows and windscreen.
- Make sure both side mirrors are in place and working.
- If in doubt, ask. We’ll show you samples and explain the differences at the shop.
