Window tinting is one of the most popular upgrades for a car, and for good reason. In this article we sum up what the process involves, what the real benefits are and how to make the right choice for your car.
What window tinting is
Tinting means fitting a special polyester film to the inside of the glass. The film reduces the amount of light and heat that gets into the cabin and filters out harmful ultraviolet rays. With professional fitting nothing on the car is taken apart, and tinting the rear takes us about 3 hours.
The main benefits
- Privacy. Tinted windows keep prying eyes out and make things left in the car less noticeable.
- UV protection. Quality films block 99% of harmful UV rays. That protects the skin of the driver and passengers, as well as the interior.
- Less heat. Up to 60% of the total heat is blocked, so the cabin heats up less and the air conditioning has less work to do.
- Safety. The adhesive layer bonds firmly to the glass and stops it from scattering into pieces if it breaks.
- Looks. Tinted windows give the car a more modern, elegant look.
Factory-tinted glass is not window film
Many modern cars leave the factory with glass tinted green or blue, and some with darkened rear windows as an extra. That extra doesn’t give real heat protection, though. A quality film adds the UV and heat protection that factory tint doesn’t provide.
How to choose the right film
1. Stay within the law
At the rear, with two side mirrors, there is no limit on how dark the tint can be. We cover the rules in detail in our article on the legal requirements.
2. Choose a quality material
Cheaper films often fade, change colour or lose their adhesion over time. We work with SUN TEK films, which come with a 10-year factory warranty against fading and adhesive failure.
3. Take your time choosing the percentage
The percentage is a matter of personal taste. Compare the options in the tint simulator, look at real cars in the gallery or read the guide to choosing a percentage.
4. Trust professional fitting
The quality of the fitting matters as much as the film itself: perfectly clean glass, precise cutting and correct shaping around the curves. This is where 20 years of experience shows.
Conclusion
Window tinting is a worthwhile investment that improves your car’s comfort, protection and looks. Stay within the law, choose a quality material and leave the fitting to professionals. That way you’ll enjoy the result for years.
