Professional fitting is half of a good result. The other half is what you do in the first days after it and how you look after the windows from then on. Here are the short rules we recommend to all our customers.
The first 3 to 7 days: keep the windows up
The most important rule after fitting is not to lower the door windows for 3 to 7 days, depending on the season. That’s how long it takes for the moisture left from fitting to evaporate and for the film to fully bond to the glass. The period is shorter in summer and longer in winter.
Bubbles and slight haze: is that normal?
In the first days you may notice small water bubbles or a slight haze. This is moisture left from fitting, and it disappears on its own as the film dries. Don’t press the bubbles or try to smooth them out. If something still worries you after the drying period, get in touch.
How to clean tinted windows
- Wait at least a week after fitting before cleaning the windows on the inside.
- Use a soft microfibre cloth.
- Use an ammonia-free cleaner or water with a little mild detergent, because ammonia can damage the film over time.
- Don’t use abrasive sponges, scrapers or blades on the inside.
- Wipe carefully around the edges of the film.
Watch out for…
- Sharp objects when loading luggage next to the rear windows.
- The seat belt buckle: if it’s released suddenly, it can hit the glass.
- Stickers and suction cups: don’t stick them directly onto the film.
Warranty
SUN TEK films come with a 10-year factory warranty against fading and adhesive failure. In our experience, with normal care the film lasts well beyond the warranty period.
